Qualifications

Physical

  • Able to observe, see, hear and respond to children’s needs, emergencies and conflicts that might occur in a classroom, on the playground, in bathrooms and common areas.

  • Able to lift 30 pounds from the floor to a waist high table multiple times during the day.

  • Able to reach a child 20-30 feet away within 30 seconds without danger to the staff person’s health.

  • Able to crouch to a child’s height, maintain eye-contact at the child’s level, sit on the floor, and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment.

  • Able to lift, pour, and close various containers.

  • Ability to use all Kitchen supplies as directed in User Manuals

Mental

  • Have a professional mindset.

  • Able to calmly handle the daily needs and expectations of preparing large quantities of food.

  • Able to communicate openly and productively.

  • Use good judgment during interactions with staff and parents.

  • Ability to follow Food Allergy Emergency Plan.

  • Basic math skills required for measuring/calculating serving portions.

Professional

  • Able to abide by Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standard requirements.

  • Able to abide by all policies and procedures set forth by Wellspring Preparatory Academy.

  • Possess leadership strength, a teamwork mindset, strong communication, networking skills, organization skills, and problem-solving ability.

  • Able to determine cognitive, social and physical needs of children and to communicate both in writing and verbally in the English language at a level that the parents and other staff are able to understand and respond.

Job Responsibilities

Educational/Childcare

  • Handle student discipline in a positive manner following all guidelines.

  • Supervise children in care at all times.

  • Help actively support other classrooms as the need arises.

  • Ensure the health and safety of all children in your assigned care and at Wellspring.

  • Feed/provide meals to all children in your assigned care according to their own personal needs.

  • Ensure that all children’s everyday needs are met including basic toiletry needs.

  • Engage with all children in a positive and calm manner.

  • Model and encourage good social skills, communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Follow hygienic guidelines for changing diapers/potty training (as needed).

  • Able to care and attend to the needs of multiple children.

  • Encourage and assist in social/emotional growth in children

Management/Responsibility

  • Interact daily with staff; maintaining open and cooperative communication with all staff/management.

  • Help the director with staff/family recruitment.

  • Help ensure the school meets all requirements set by law.

  • Encourage shared decision-making.

  • Creation of a safe, respectful, and fair environment for students and other staff.

  • Team player.

  • Open kitchen and check all health code licensing needs

  • Prepare the morning snack.

  • Distribute snacks to all classrooms

  • Prepare lunch

  • Distribute lunch to all classrooms

  • Prepare afternoon snack

  • Distribute afternoon snack

  • Prep any meals as needed.

  • Close down kitchen following protocols.

  • Participate in performance reviews.

  • Attend all Wellspring meetings as required.

  • Regular and clear communication with Wellspring management.

  • Able to use computer programs such as; Pro Care, Office, Docs, Sheets, etc.

Licensing

  • Facilitating and maintaining all licensing standards as assigned to you.

  • Maintain all kitchen records as required.

  • Proper completion of all drills/inspections.

  • Ensure all health department requirements are met.

  • Contact management when any incidents arise.

  • Contact authorities when/if the need arises.

  • Follow all Emergency Protocols.

  • Specific requirements set by TDFPS minimum standards and/or accreditation.

Meal/Nutrition

  • Ensure that meals are served in a healthy and sanitary manner and environment.

  • Maintain food managers license (as followed by Wellspring’s annual training)

  • Follow all Food Allergy Emergency Plans.

  • Follow all local and state health laws/requirements.

  • Order food within budget.

  • Ability to prepare food with proper storage conditions.

  • Ability to understand the needs of children with food allergies.

  • Ability to implement methods to avoid food cross contamination.

Janitorial/Maintenance

  • Complete any and all janitorial duties as necessary.

  • Maintain the kitchen to all health department requirements.

  • Responsible for ensuring the Kitchen has an overall peaceful and pleasant sound, smell, and sight.

  • Provide a clean and hygienic space for food preparation.

  • Report unsafe workplace issues.

  • Responsible for keeping landscape and outdoor areas clean and ready for use.

  • Responsible for keeping common areas clean, tidy, and safe for use.
